Please plan ahead for any fuel or farm supply needs you might have before the weekend. Whether you need feed for your livestock or fuel for your equipment, stop by early so you aren’t caught unprepared. We hope you have a safe and enjoyable holiday as we take this time to honor the contributions of hardworking individuals everywhere.

We will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, September 2. Thank you for your continued business and support!

A Brief History of Labor Day

We often view Labor Day as simply the unofficial end of summer. It’s a last chance for barbecues, lake trips, and relaxation before autumn sets in. However, the holiday holds a much deeper significance rooted in American history. Labor Day originated in the late 19th century during the height of the Industrial Revolution. Workers faced grueling conditions. They worked 12-hour days and seven-day weeks just to scrape by. In response to these hardships, labor unions grew more prominent and vocal! They organized strikes and rallies to demand better pay, safer conditions, and reasonable hours.

The first Labor Day parade took place on September 5, 1882, in New York City, where thousands of workers took unpaid time off to march for their rights. The idea caught on quickly across the country. In 1894, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September a legal holiday to recognize the immense contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. It stands as a yearly tribute to the creators of so much of our nation’s strength, freedom, and leadership—the American worker. To honor this legacy, our store is always Closed Labor Day!
